The Gothenburg Frito Lay facility contracts with 140 corn producers in an eight-county area, More than 600 million pounds of Nebraska corn will be shipped from the Gothenburg facility during the current crop year. The corn will be used to produce some of America's leading snacks - Doritos, Fritos and Tostitos. Anytime someone buys a Frito corn-based snack west of the Mississippi River, it is almost a certainty the corn originated from the Gothenburg Frito Lay Plant. Since its opening in 1996, this facility has achieved many milestones. The local team has driven a remarkable 45 percent growth by moving from a 350-million-pound site to an operation that now handles 600 million pounds of grain. In addition, there's been a building expansion, continued valuable relationships with the local farmers and state and local officials and the recognition of a facility that prides itself on embracing the industry's top safety and health initiatives.

After a three-year journey from recruitment to building the opening of the $6 million Monsanto Water Utilization Learning Center became a reality in June 2009. Water is a vital element in the production of food. Helping farmers better manage water utilization for crops is the focus of the learning center.

Monsanto’s three-part goal is to double production by developing better seeds, conserve resources by one-third through genetic research and improve quality of life for farmers at all levels. Through breeding, biotechnology and agronomics, Monsanto can maximize yield gains all while using less water.

The Water Utilization Learning Center plays an important role in research as it has the most sophisticated technology in the world for applying water and then studying and understanding how it affects the plants.

Also at the new facility is the Monsanto Breeding Center.
